The people are so kind, easy going, and welcoming. The beauty of the country is un-matched with any where else I’ve ever been.

If this is your first or 10th time visiting the African continent, I would greatly suggest visiting This East African nation. Let’s explore jaw dropping and amazing things to do in Tanzania!

Visit the Beaches in Zanzibar- Things to do in Tanzania

You can’t visit Tanzania without checking out the gorgeous island of Zanzibar! This small islands located off the Eastern coast, dotted in the Indian Ocean.

The climate and fruit reminded me so much of my home country Jamaica. The water is so blue, and there’s endless activities to embark on! Visit the spice farms, check out local Zanzibari villages, or swim with turtles.

Stone Town Zanzibar

Stone Town is an old town with Indian and Arab influences. Its right by the ferry port and your entry into the island. You can either chose a hotel here or somewhere in the country area near the beaches.

It’s actually where Freddie Mercury of the Queen band was born! Grab some local street food, sip on a coconut, and enjoy the island vibes. There’s also a magnificent fruit/veggie market where you can get awesome perfume and souvenirs.

Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro- Things to do in Tanzania

Kilimanjaro national park sign

This mountain is the tallest in the whole continent of Africa and the 5th largest in the world. If you want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, you have to be very adventurous and fit.

Climbing this mountain is recommended for professional climbers so it will take training and expertise to pull this one off. Don’t worry though! There are plenty of other gorgeous hikes in the country if you’re not up to this challenge.

Visit Dar es Salaam- Things to do in Tanzania

The old capital of Tanzania (now Dodoma is capital) Dar es Salaam has a lot to offer! Directly translating to place of peace, you can see it in the people’s faces.

Check out the bustling city and enjoy cheap street food like chips mayai, an egg omelette with French fries. You can also purchase some beautiful, Tanzanian African print fabrics as well!

Enjoy Mbudya Island

This is a small island accessible by Dar es Salaam and it’s a must see! If you want to visit beaches and you’re in Dar es Salaam, take a 30 minute boat ride over to Mbduya island.

Its so gorgeous, but very small! No one lives on the island, it’s strictly for tourism purposes. The food choices are limited, especially if you’re vegan like me. So be sure to pack a couple of sandwiches and snacks and you’ll be good to go!

Lake Duluti- Things to do in Tanzania

Located in Arusha Northern Tanzania, Lake Duluti is such a treat! It’s easy to get to and a great place to go cycling.

Support locals by grabbing a bite to eat and going on a quick yet exciting boat ride. Afterwards (or before!) you can take a quick hike and see all this region has to offer!

Napuru Waterfall

Also located in Arusha (you can see this area has a lot to offer) is Napuru Waterfall. This entire area is one of my faves in the country!

It’s super quiet, lots of nature, and the waterfall is jaw dropping stunning. If you love the woodsy outdoor type and waterfalls, this is a must visit.

Arusha National Park- Things to do in Tanzania

If you’re on a budget and want to visit the safari, you need to swing by Arusha National Park! I had some local Tanzanian friends drive me with their car and it was awesome.

My total for the safari was about $150 (including lunch). That’s a steal considering the Serengeti can be about $600 per person. I saw giraffes, monkeys, and so much more. It was epic!

Visit the Kariakoo Market

Located in downtown Dar es Salaam, Kariakoo is the biggest market in the area. If you’re a fruit lvoer like me, this is a must visit!

The market is full of fruits like giant avocados, sweet pineapples, and the best bananas you’ll ever taste.

Makini Swing/ Mangalia Waterfall- Things to do in Tanzania

If you want an instagrammable picture with Bali vibes, you’ve got to visit Makini Swing! I went on a hike with local Tanzanians and it was a nature based wonderful experience!

Located in similar area is the Magnolia Waterfall. It’s ice cold waters are great for a dip in a cool day, and perfect for taking gorgeous pictures.

Located in the Arusha area, Mount Meru is an inactive volcano that offers a gorgeous sight. While you can climb this mountain just as Kilimanjaro, its a great place to look at as well.

Mount Meru is the 5th tallest mountain in Africa and offers wonderful views at the top. If you’re into mountain climbing, this is suggested!

Ngorongoro Crater- Things to do in Tanzania

Zebras on Tanzanian safari

I went to this safari location and it was like a Disney movie! There was not a cloud in the sky, countless zebras, and gorgeous lush safari.

There are of course many safaris to embark on (budget & luxury priced) but I highly recommend this specific activity.

Serengeti National Park

Probably the most popular safari (and tourist) destination in all of Tanzania! Lions, Zebras, monkeys, giraffes, elephants, you name it!

Tours here tend to be a but pricey so definitely save up for it. Check out my article on how to save money for travel.

Visit Arusha- Things to do in Tanzania

Arusha is a northern city that is actually quite chilly! It’s a popular destination for visitors who prefer cooler temperature as the rest of Tanzania is very hot. The city is only a bus ride away from Kenya, so quite an adventure can be planned.

Arusha is so gorgeous and much more laid back compared to Dar es Salaam. It has mountains everywhere and an abundance of waterfalls. There is way more to offer than Dar es Salaam and where you’ll head to for Safaris. It’s also great for cycling!

Lake Manyara

Lake mantra pink flamingos

When I first came across Lake Manyara I was absolutely stunned. Hundreds of bright pink flamingos roam in the peaceful lake. It truly makes you feel like you’re in a cartoon movie.

Bring along a zoom in camera and take in the breathless wonder. This is a must visit safari destination and thing to do in Tanzania.

Dance with Maasai- Things to do in Tanzania

On my safari tour of Ngorongoro Crater, we stopped by a Maassai village. They are a tribe that originate from northern Tanzania and southern Kenya. They’re an extremely tall group of people and jump very high!

When we stopped at the village, they sand an amazing song and danced, and I got the chance to dance with them! Don’t leave Tanzania without spending a bit of time in a Maasai village, you won’t regret it!

Lake Victoria

This is the largest lake on the African continent and share a border with Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. Its an astonishing lake with beautiful sunsets and great views.

Located in North western Tanzania closer to Rwanda, it’s a great place to visit and make memories!
